Message From The DirectorsThe Belmont Music Department offers a holistic musical experience to its students, with ensembles including Concert Band, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz, Guitar, and Music Composition. Members of our program have additional opportunities to grow and learn through student-led small ensembles, clinics, festival participation and many varied performance situations, as well as musical tours to places like Banff, Whistler, and even Cuba. In addition, Belmont is well known for its bi-annual Cabaret productions with themes such as Travel's Abroad and An Evening at the Grammy's. These Cabaret productions are excellent solo/combo performance opportunities and are a great way to raise scholarship money. Many of our students (Grades 10-12), have gone to summer music camps or taken private lessons with scholarship money they have helped to raise through these performances.
In choosing a music course as an elective here at Belmont, you are joining a team where your input is valued and the results of your hard work are shared and multiplied by the whole ensemble. Whether or not you become a musician as an adult, you will leave this program knowing the value of commitment, concentration, and self-discipline; life skills that will help you to succeed in whatever career you pursue. The administration and counselling teams recognize this and will assist you if you encounter and problems with scheduling/course selection. We thank you for your interest in the Music Program at Belmont Secondary, and we look forward to working with you in the future!
